National Wetlands Inventory (Lines) EXTENT: San Diego region plus USGS 7.5 minute quads which straddle county boundary DATE OF DATA: 1985
NWI data was interpreted from 1:48000 (1" = 4000') scale aerial photography and mapped at 1:24000. There are over 140 wetland types identified in S.D. region. The classification system is hierarchical and structured around ecological, hydrological, and substrate characteristics.
The data extends into the Pacific Ocean to include the marine and marine intertidal zones. Caution: The System variable for upland (U) is the same as U/PEMA, where U alone is not a wetland, and U/PEMA is a vernal pool type wetland. Also when plotting or tabulating marine categories using the system variable, both the open ocean (M1) and intertidal zones (M2) will be included. Therefore you may want to use the DESC variable to plot or tabulate only the marine intertidal zones.
